Red Hills & Cotton

I never was much of an artist
When it came to conveying with paint
But this scene that I'm seeing is so peaceful & pleasing
I've got to try & find a way to say

Red hills & cotton
A sight to behold no canvas can hold
Blue skies & breezes that smell like the trees
Is taking this country boy home

I've never seen so many good things
Bunched all together like bees in a hive
A camera would just swell up & bust
If it ever tried to fit it all inside

Red hills & cotton
A june bug's buzzin' with a string on his leg
Chickens get high from them old blue tail flies
Cackle & lay some fresh eggs

But as time rolls along
All the cotton is gone
And that red clay is covered
With houses & roads, oh how I miss those

Red hills & cotton
May they never be forgotten in the memory of man
Anyone that's seen knows what I mean
The Lord never made a better land!
