Keowee Keeps Calling' Me
(Keowee meaning "The Place of the Mulberry")

Keowee Village was once a central hub along the Indian trading path that connected Cherokee towns and villages throughout eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, and northwestern South Carolina with the Atlantic Ocean. Across the Keowee River was the English settlement, Fort Prince George. All remnants are now beneath the waters of Lake Keowee. Duke Power Company began development of the beautiful 18,400-acre Lake Keowee and 7,500-acre Lake Jocassee in 1967.

Keowee Keeps Calling Me

The fog in the early morning
Covers the water like clouds in the sky
And sailing across it feels like
I'm floating on air, a thousand feet high

And suddenly
The weight of this world has lifted
My life is at peace.
Keowee keeps calling me

At Keowee when the sun sets
The Blue Ridge horizon meets fiery sky
Reflecting across the water
I see all I've dreamed has been here all the time

And suddenly
The weight of this world has lifted
I'm living the dream.
Keowee keeps calling me

In the stillness that follows
There in the moon glow
Sometimes it seems time slows
To a stop

There's magic around these mountains
That heals the body, mind and soul
I take a deep breath and feel it
Revealing its power, leading me home

And suddenly
The weight of this world has lifted
My life is at peace
Keowee keeps calling me
Keowee keeps calling me
