The Angels' Share PDF Print E-mail

"The Angels' Share" was a phrase used by whiskey makers, referring to the tiny essence of whiskey that escapes into the mountain air during the distilling process. The places mentioned in this song are just the Angels' Share of the countless offerings from this area. Borders are only man-made marks on the trees, and stakes in the earth. The goodness goes on beyond the borderlines, across the hills & valleys of North & South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Angels' Share

Flyin' high, Carolina blue
A white palmetto
Beneath the crescent moon
On & on a single grand design
The goodness goes on
Beyond the borderlines

(Chorus)
Blue ridge after blue ridge
I have to stop & stare
And when I think I've seen it all
It's just the angels' share

The closer I look
The more I find
Hills & valleys
Loaded down with life

(Chorus)

From Ellicott to Blowing Rock
Clingman's Dome to Catalochee
Swannanoa, Sassafras to Shenandoah
And all that's in between
I've heard it's called God's country
Well I don't know if this is where he's from
But I'll bet if he takes a vacation
This is where he comes

(Chorus)
